About this listing
This historic cabin is named for the solitary hermit who traveled back and forth from the cabin to his mining claim in the mountains.
Hermit’s Roost is off by itself on the edge of a sunny glade. It’s a good choice for travelers seeking seclusion or for a small group of tent campers wanting access to their own kitchen and bath.
This authentic miner’s cabin glows with quaint charm and rustic comfort. Electrified lantern lights reveal a burl-based table, large braided rug, leather love seat, and rock-faced corner with a wood-burning stove.
Like our other cabins, Hermit’s Roost provides the luxury of down bedding and hand-crafted quilts for the double and twin beds, plus a fully furnished tiny kitchen and bath.
The original cabin logs and deck are still in place. Looking closely, you can see traces of moss and burlap used for chinking long ago. The interior has been newly chinked and updated for today’s traveler with wood flooring, a braided rug, a queen bed with down bedding, a kitchen, a bath, and a wood-burning stove.
You will also find a futon that opens into a double bed. Adding to the living space, the covered porch has two rockers and a porch swing. Guests love this, our oldest, homestead cabin for its authenticity and charm.
Our land is known for the richness of its history and spectacular setting in the Copper Valley, adjacent to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Located on the original site of the historic Chistochina Roadhouse, this is the place for adventure. Whether you wander the trail to the Beaver Dam or fish in the Copper River, you’ll be surrounded by awesome scenery and the peace of unpopulated space.
People come repeatedly to stay in our authentic homestead cabins with rustic elegance. Guests remember the spirit of the Roadhouse – meals served by the fire, stories shared with fellow travelers, and a good night’s sleep for tomorrow’s adventure.
We have many log swings, porches, rockers, and Adirondack chairs that invite relaxation. Bicycles, a bike path, volleyball, horseshoes, and other games appeal to those who desire activity. We offer free Internet access, a fax and printer, plus a library of books and DVDs for our guests. Movie viewing is available in the lodge.
Fly in or drive in year-round and enjoy our six rustic log cabins, each with a different theme, restored to accommodate today’s adventurers. These authentic homestead cabins feature rustic luxury with queen beds, down bedding, wood-burning stoves, and hand-crafted quilts.
We also have RV and tent sites. We have grassy campsites for RV and tent campers in sunny clearings or shady forests.
Our property is perfect for groups of all kinds—business meetings, retreats and reunions, special interest groups, events, and celebrations. Our intimate great room decorated with Alaskana will seat up to 30. Warmed by a wood fire, the dining room beyond encourages one to linger at the conference table. Outside, a small deck, the sound of water, and a grouping of picnic tables beckons…at day’s end gather with your friends on log benches to visit and roast marshmallows around the large campfire (If it’s dark enough, you may see the Northern Lights!).
Enjoy a delicious, complimentary, continental breakfast.
Your cabin has its own bath, but you may also enjoy our bathhouse—the grandest north of the 49th parallel. You’ll see why when you see it! Built in 2007, this log building is constructed from naturally aged logs downed in an Alaskan forest fire 18 years ago. The logs were peeled and hand-scribed to make an unusually beautiful camp bathhouse. With its large overhanging roof and deck, antique copper washer, rustic stalls, and light fixtures, the bathhouse has been nominated for a feature article in a log building magazine.
Besides the separate sides for men and women (handicap friendly), this new bathhouse also has a coin-operated laundry and solar panels for heating. All guests have bathhouse privileges.
Coin-operated laundry on site. Ask us about REAL Alaskan adventures! Nearby trails, rivers, glaciers, and the 16,000 ft. mountains of Wrangell St. Elias National Park call to adventurers of all kinds from four-wheeling and snow-machining fans to rafters and flight-seers to sportsmen and hikers, to photographers and more…
Price is based on double occupancy.
